The past few years I've tried whenever possible to use my photography to help towards raising funds for some truly great causes. Previous recipients include Great Ormond Street Hospital and the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at the Norfolk & Norwich University Hospital where my brother and son respectively spent their early days.

I will continue next year with my commitment to the N&NUH NICU (more of that at a later date) but this Christmas I wanted to use this sale to help a dear friend of mine's son, Ian Campbell who is sadly, like so many, putting up the fight of his life - literally.

I've been lucky to have been friends with Malcolm his father, as well as the larger part of the Campbell clan for over 15 years. Through their innovative surfboard designs Malcolm and his brother Duncan are bona fide legends of the surfing world which will mean something to a few of you but probably not much to most. Through this friendship I have been afforded experiences that I could never have dreamed of not to mention just having the chance to simply enjoy the company of some very special, generous and kind human beings. A big part of the Campbell's ethos is reciprocal maintenance or giving back. As a beneficiary of this firsthand it only seemed right that I should try and return a fraction of this kindness in some small way.

Living in the US Ian and his family have faced mounting medical expenses over the course of his two year treatment for bowel and liver cancer. In the UK we are so lucky to have a health service system that means we don't have to consider needing even the most basic health insurance cover. This is a privilege not afforded to the average American with hundreds of dollars a month required to fund the most basic policy even before the increased expense of specialist long term treatment.

Not a day goes by where we aren't asked through various social media channels to contribute to a dozen worthy causes. That's why I offer something physical in return for a payment where 100% of the profit will go to the chosen cause.

Ian is a young man with a beautiful young family and a life to live to it's fullest. The extra pressures that come from the bills they are facing is not something they should have to be worrying about. Every £/$ towards those expenses makes their day-to-day that tiny bit brighter so all profits from the sale - what's left after the cost price of the paper, ink & postage -will go to them.
